Hey there! I’m Chef Hansen. I’ve been in the foodservice
industry for over 30 years and teaching for more than 20. I hold a master’s in
Secondary Education, a bachelor’s in Restaurant Management, and an associate
degree in Culinary Arts Management from BJU. Currently, I’m the vice-president
of the upstate ACF chapter and a registered ServSafe instructor and proctor. In
November 2023, I was honored as the Upstate Hospitality Educator of the Year by
the South Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association.
When I’m not teaching, I love working in Greenville’s
vibrant restaurant scene. I’ve had the pleasure of working at places like
Soby’s New South Cuisine, Nose Dive, Avenue, Camp A Modern American Eatery, and
The Lazy Goat. This hands-on experience keeps me in touch with the latest food
trends and helps me network for my students. I’ve also worked with top-notch
catering companies like Componere Fine Catering in San Francisco and Table 301
Catering in Greenville. I even take on a few private catering events each year.
I teach courses in Cooking Methods, Professional Catering, Cost Controls, and
Fine Dining.
I enjoy giving back to the community by volunteering my
cooking skills at special events both at my church and in the community. I’m on
the advisory board for Greenville County and Anderson County culinary arts
programs. Every spring, I participate as a tasting judge for the ProStart
competition sponsored by the SCRLA. I also collaborate with the South Carolina
Department of Education to update teaching standards for high school Culinary
Arts programs. My wife, Brenda, and I have three wonderful children.
